What deserves to be remembered in your neighborhood?

(Un)Set In Stone is a community art monument

In fall of 2025, we invited people to reimagine how we honor our shared history. Shaped like a traditional obelisk but coated in chalkboard, this monument traveled to events in Montgomery, prompting people like you to draw and imagine what should be remembered in your neighborhood. This project served as a portal for civic reimagination , and how we, as a city, can build public spaces and memorials with more community input in mind.

(un)set in stone - collectible book
$25.00

In the fall of 2025, three artists in Montgomery, Alabama, invited people to reimagine how we honor our shared history. Shaped like a traditional obelisk but coated in chalkboard, this monument traveled to events, prompting people like you to draw and imagine what should be remembered in your neighborhood. This project, with 450+ participants, served as a portal for civic reimagination and showed how we, as a city, can build with more community input in mind. We hope this book can also become a manual for other communities seeking to gather input on the central question: “what deserves to be remembered in your neighborhood?”

This is a pocket-sized (5 × 8 inches) softcover book with an emphasis on ease of transport, for whenever you need inspiration.
Shipment will begin at the end of January 2026.
