What deserves to be remembered in your neighborhood?
(Un)Set In Stone is a
community art monument
We invite people to reimagine how we honor our shared history. Shaped like a traditional obelisk but coated in chalkboard, this monument will travel to Montgomery events, prompting people like you to draw and imagine what should be remembered in your neighborhood. In our city, we often hear about the construction of new monuments or the removal of existing ones. Still, much of what’s missed is the opportunity to make these structures portals for civic reimagination.
Here’s How We’re Working
Our build | Aug 2025
We’re building an art monument that gives people the chance to draw, imagine, and reflect on a central question: “what deserves to be remembered in your neighborhood?”
Our tour | Sep - Dec 2025
From September to December 2025, we’ll be touring the art monument across Montgomery with a chance for you to draw and imagine.
Our exhibit | Jan 2026
We’ll synthesize these drawings and replies to our art monument. Ultimately, you can join and witness this work for our exhibit in January ‘26.

While they work to fight for people at the State House, there is a crucial key to driving cultural change that betters our state, and that is through meaningful art.
